Yes you level really fast, def. faster than 10 years ago, but the stories have stops in its progress. So you'll be forced to level by other means than just through story. Exploring and doing events on the way until you hit the level to continue the story is enough.

I would just karma train in EoTM then. The best way to grind out WvW ranks should be a Train in EotM. If you are more interested in getting kills, an active WvW guild would be better suited for you. Warrior and Necromancer would both be decent for Zerg combat, both are also reasonably easy to get into.
